Guayakà Sustainable Rainforest Products
Sebastopol-based Guayaki imports an energizing rainforest beverage called yerba mate throughout the US at stores like Whole Foods, Wild Oats and Trader Joe’s. Through the sale of its products, Guayakà sustains and restores 20,000 acres of Rainforest, supports various cooperatives and Indigenous communities and demonstrates that money does grow on trees. Mann earned a degree in economics at Harvard University and worked with the Bank of New York, which led to dissatisfaction with modern corporations and a journey of self-discovery.

As forests near extinction and hundreds of cultures and languages disappear every decade, we are compelled to engage ourselves in livelihoods that empower us to restore nature’s abundance. Yet, in this time of growing complexity, there are rarely black and white answers to the toughest questions. This interactive workshop will frame a specific set of issues based on GuayakÃ’s experience working with an indigenous community in an attempt to raise our awareness, understanding and skill in applying “Sustainable Solutions†that accomplish the goals of the project for all stakeholders.
