Professor Robert Girling

Professor Robert Girling: received his Ph. D. from Stanford University and has taught and consulted in 20 different countries and most recently has served as a consultant to the Caribbean Development Bank on sustainable development strategies for the island of Dominica and as an organizer of the Sustainable Enterprise Conference on tools for sustainability of businesses and communities.

His previous professional experience includes teaching at the Federal University of Bahia where he was International Project Director, and the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, the University of the West Indies and American University in Washington D.C. He has consulted with the World Bank, USAID, the United Nations, and the International Center for Research on Women. He has served as Director of Regional Development for the Government of Jamaica, president of the faculty union, as co-chair of the University Academic Planning Committee, as a member of the California State University Senate, and on the boards of non-governmental organizations.

Professor Girling is the author of over 50 articles and books including Structures of Dependency (1973); Multinational Institutions and the Third World (1985); Education, Management and Participation(1990); A Escola Participativa (1998).
